Festive day : August 5, 2026 in Provence | Harvest & Distillation Day (Lavender Museum Luberon)

To celebrate harvest and distillation season, the museum offers a day full of discovery activities for children and adults. Workshops are included with the museum admission ticket.

Harvest & Distillation Celebration Day – Wednesday, August 5, 2026

On August 5, 2026, the Lavender Museum Luberon celebrates lavender at the most exciting moment of the summer: harvest and distillation. This festive day invites you to enjoy an immersive Luberon experience in a must-visit museum in Provence, surrounded by warm summer scents and shared traditions. A perfect answer to “What to do in the Luberon?” near Gordes and Avignon, in the Vaucluse, in Provence.

Highlight: hand-harvesting demonstration with a sickle

Watch a traditional hand-cutting demonstration, just like in the old days. You’ll see how the bouquet is built, how the gesture flows, and how the know-how is passed on. At the end, everyone leaves with a freshly cut bunch of lavandin — an authentic moment that captures the spirit of Provence.

Times: 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Full programme – Harvest & Distillation Celebration Day

10:00 am – Opening and first discoveries

From opening time, plan your day your way: self-guided museum visit, workshops, distillation moments, the harvest demonstration and a gourmet break. Easy to organise — even with children — with a mix of short activities and deeper experiences.

10:00 am to 6:00 pm – Audio-guided museum visit (continuous)

The audio-guided visit lets you explore the collection and the know-how linked to lavender. Follow the story of tools, trades and distilleries, and understand why fine lavender is so important in the Vaucluse landscape — perfect for a family discovery in the Luberon.

The audio guide is available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Czech, Dutch and Russian.

Duration: 1h to 1h15.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm – Old-fashioned distillation

Distillation shows how lavender becomes essential oil. Explanations stay clear, scents evolve throughout the process, and the gestures can be observed up close — a must during this “Harvest & Distillation” celebration day.

Duration: 20 to 30 minutes.
Booking recommended by phone: +33 (0)4 90 76 91 23.

Discovery workshops – Harvest & Distillation Celebration Day

For this special event, all workshops are included with the museum admission ticket, except those led by external instructors: scented watercolour (€5 contribution) and lavender spindle weaving (€10 contribution).

10:00 am to 11:30 am and 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm – Sensory Workshop

A workshop to recognise, compare and memorise. Explore Provence fragrances, spot the nuances, match a scent to a plant, and understand the link between cultivation, harvest and distillation. Good French required.

Included with admission. Booking required by phone: +33 (0)4 90 76 91 23.

10:30 am to 5:00 pm – Kids’ Lavender Sachet Workshop

Children create their own lavender sachet with Céline and Allison. Simple, fun, and easy to fit into the day — an ideal activity for families visiting the Luberon.

Duration: about 20 minutes. Included with admission.

10:00 am to 6:00 pm – Lavender Spindle Weaving Workshop with Mrs Bagnoli

A true Provençal tradition: learn how to weave a lavender spindle and leave with a fragrant, long-lasting keepsake to enjoy at home.

Duration: 1h to 1h30. Contribution: €10 paid directly to Patricia.

2:00 pm to 6:00 pm – Scented Watercolour Workshop with Nathalie Maire

Nathalie Maire guides each participant to create a lavender-inspired watercolour. Gentle, accessible and a lovely way to complete a day of cultural activities in Provence.

Sessions: 2 pm, 3 pm, 4 pm, 5 pm.
Duration: 1h. Contribution: €5 paid directly to Nathalie. Booking required by phone: +33 (0)4 90 76 91 23.

Gourmet break

10:00 am to 7:00 pm – Ice cream stand in the museum courtyard

The ice cream stand sets up in the courtyard with creative flavours: fine lavender, thyme, rose, rosemary, melon… A sweet break between two activities.
