Throughout the summer season, the Lavender Museum Luberon offers a rich and varied programme of things to do in Provence, in the heart of the Luberon, close to Gordes and Avignon. Designed for families, children and visitors staying in the region, these activities invite you to discover lavender in a different way, through cultural visits and creative workshops, set in an authentic and natural Provençal environment.
Traditional lavender distillation workshop
From July 1 to August 23, 2025 – daily
A must-see thing to do in the Luberon, the traditional distillation workshop immerses visitors in the age-old know-how of Provence. Around an authentic 19th-century still, participants discover steam distillation, from freshly cut flowers to the extraction of essential oil and floral water. The distiller explains the differences between fine lavender and lavandin, the role of the coil and the Florentine flask, and answers visitors’ questions. A lively and accessible cultural activity in Provence, ideal for understanding the history and uses of lavender.

Self-guided audio tour of the museum
Always available every day during museum opening hours
The self-guided audio tour allows visitors to explore the Lavender Museum at their own pace. Available in 11 languages, it explains the botanical differences between lavender varieties, the history of lavender in Provence, traditional harvesting methods and distillation techniques. The visit includes a documentary film, exhibition rooms with 25 points of interpretation, and the opportunity to discover lavender essential oils, niche perfumes and organic cosmetics. An ideal cultural activity in Provence for families and international visitors.

Scented watercolour workshop
Wednesday and Sunday afternoons – from June 28 to August 23
This original workshop combines art and fragrance to offer a creative activity in Provence, near Gordes and Avignon. Guided by a professional watercolour artist, participants paint using delicately scented watercolours, created exclusively with natural essences used in perfumery. Colours, gestures and scents come together for a gentle and poetic experience. Open from age 8, this workshop appeals to both adults and children and is a perfect summer activity in the Luberon.

Lavender sachet workshop for children
From July 1 to August 23 – daily from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Specially designed for younger visitors, the lavender sachet workshop is a popular children’s activity in Provence during the summer. Each afternoon, children create and personalise their own scented sachet by choosing the fabric, ribbon and a mix of aromatic plants such as lavender, mint or rosemary. Guided by the workshop leader, they discover Provençal plants in a fun and hands-on way. A wonderful family activity in the Luberon, perfect for taking home a handmade scented souvenir.
